WHAT IT IS The Un Gardenia La Nuit candle from Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle produces the unmistakeable, almost carnal scent of this white flower, for which no natural essence exists. To achieve this stunning feat, perfumer Dominique Ropion worked with headspace, a modern technology that is used to analyse the scent molecules present in an air sample. Ropion managed to reproduce the flower's scent almost identically - immortalized on a summer's night, the gardenia reveals the full complexity of its milky, spicy, fruity fragrance, which is also irresistibly fresh and green.
